Default 2nd prefession advice

i just started and was wondering how effective a PvE ranger/monk would do. i would like a good char who could support and deal large amounts of damage from range. any suggestions and advice would be appreciated

Paragons are better straight damage dealers/party support types.

... regardless, R/Mo is a solid choice.
You get Mending Touch (not vital in PvE, but good anyway) and a hard resurrect spell - Rangers have an easy time surviving a near party wipe.

If you wanted a more damage focused Ranger, try Splinter Weapon or one of the Conjure spells.

R/Mo is pretty steady build for [skill]Rebirth[/skill] and [skill]Mending Touch[/skill] but not a whole lot else that I can think of.I very rarely use R/Mo unless I'm running somewhere.

I prefer an R/D using [skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill] which is very much a support rather than damage build or

there's R/E for [skill]Conjure Flame[/skill] with [skill]Glass Arrows[/skill] or[skill]Kindle Arrows[/skill] if you want to go more damage orientated.

However, [skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill] [skill]Barrage[/skill] will probably outdamage most builds , personally I just don't really like it though

Being a Prophecies character, you have to choose a secondary class in Pre-Searing. At this point my recommendation would be Monk or Elementalist, for all the reasons given above. Even if you had Nightfall, you would not have the option of taking Dervish or Paragon yet...

However if you were to get Factions and/or Nightfall, you also have the option to change to one of those professions after you Ascend in the Prophecies campaign. You can then use the Profession Changer NPC in the Great Temple of Balthazar to change to any secondary class your account has access to.

PvP: Mending touch...in very rare situations you may take some form of hex removal, but only if the build your team is running needs it. Restfull breeze is usefull at very low healing prayers, but ive never used it. Rangers have effective self protection.

In PvE: Rebirth, and in undead areas [skill]judge's insight[/skill] will do majory damage.
